Gang nail roof trusses and floor beams product review

BSW1.jpg Gang-Nail System’s roof trusses and Ecojoist floor beams are being used as components in a new energy efficient scheme in Kent.

BSW Alouette, a timber engineering company specialising in modern methods of construction, is supplying and erecting Super E closed panel timber-framed houses to Berekely Homes’ Holborough Development in Kent. The Super E system uses Ecojoist floor beams and Gang-Nail roof trusses.

BSW Alouette is a leading builder of Super E homes, a technical standard backed by the Canadian government that ensures exceptional noise reduction and energy efficiency. The Gang-Nail components are an integral part of BSW Alouette’s approach to Super E.

Ecojoist beams consist of parallel stress graded timber flanges joined together with engineered V shaped galvanised steel webs. The structure and light weight of the products, combined with their suitability for offsite construction, provide a wealth of benefits for fabricators and clients alike.

Ecojoist beams and Gang-Nail trussed roof components are part of a fully-integrated timber engineering system that combines high-quality metal components with dedicated software, mechanical engineering services and technical support.

Simon Johnson, Sales Manager of BSW Alouette says that the advantage for the client of using Gang-Nail Systems is a better quality product and reduced time on site.

“The client likes everything we offer and appreciated the features and benefits of the Gang-Nail approach. The Ecojoist beams are easy to handle and made to measure so they can be erected in half the time of conventional joists. The open web design gives you a lot of free space that saves time when installing services and there is no need to cut holes and notches for pipe runs as you would have to do with conventional timber or engineered I-beams. What’s more there is negligible shrinkage and swelling, so the occupant doesn’t end up with creaking floors.”

From the fabricator’s point of view Gang-Nail Systems’ fully integrated timber engineering system saves time and money.

“It is a very competent system,” says Simon Johnson. “The hardware allows us to optimize the product offsite – so we get less hassle on site and it is quicker to erect. The integrated software allows us to optimize costs and material within the design of the house. We know what we want, how many of them we want and when we want them.”
