Bollards! Spot the deliberate mistake...

bollards.jpgLooks like these lads have nearly finished their work of installing nifty anti-vehicle measures to protect the bar. But when they realise what they've forgotten only one word will sum up the situation: Bollards!

Unlikely to be sold in Ikea

Now, the Box is pretty easy going when it comes to matters of taste, but these rugs stretch even our flexible boundaries to the limit. If you thought tiger or bear rugs were a bit 'full on', then these 'war on terror' rugs may not be your cup of tea. Yep, you heard me right, war on terror rugs. I can practically guarantee if you ever see one of these in a house, get out, straight away.

Oddly, the Box thinks they are kitsch. No, really. Anything this bizarre can't be sold seriously, can it? Well, I would like to live in a world where it isn't.

They ain't how they used to be

And now for something completely different...if you are a fan of the traditional tools that your grandfather may have used, then this may well be the site for you. OldTools.co.uk offers a wide range of antique woodworking tool collectables and old engineering products. So, if you fancy buying something for the mantlepiece, or maybe you would actually like to use some of the fine items on display, check out the website:

Your computer doesn't have to be dull

Steampunk.jpg
Undoubtedly you are sitting right now, reading these very words, in front of a dull-toned grey or black monitor and keyboard. But, wait a second, are you not a builder? Do you not love to construct things? Why are you not painting your screen, sanding your keyboard or planing your mouse? Because that would ruin a perfectly good computer, of course. Well now, at last, is your chance to spruce up your virtual life once and for all.

Boffins at the 'Steampunk Workshop' - where apparently the industrial revolution has returned and 'this time it's personal' - have spent far too much time producing an overtly decadent and quite funky looking monitor and keyboard in what can only be described as a GCSE Design & Technology project gone mad.

It's quite possible that you too might be able to make the IT suite, as all it requires are a few basic tools and some spare time. If any of you do make it, please email me with some pics so I can laugh, I mean, applaud your work.

Bathroom humour: it's all Dutch to me.

lift-loo.gif
BuildersBox recently discovered a Dutch oddity. Not satisfied with imposing 'Big Brother' across the globe, the Dutch have now made...wait for it...elevator toilets.

Unfortunately these are not as insane as they sound. Its just a normal bog decorated as an elevator, not a working elevator with a toilet in it.

It has been created for a Dutch reality show. What a surprise.

Please, don't tell Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, just have a look at it yourself instead.

Oh yeah, on the website the lift loo features on there are also some crazy video ads to the far right of the screen that are worth checking out, under the title 'bekijk de tv spots', and involving pink rooms, paintballing, and an excessively large collection of ceramic cats. Tarrant, eat your heart out.

They'll do any job

Demolition can be a difficult job at the best of times, especially with all the health and safety issues that it involves. But one company clearly decided that such worries were not important, as the following visual evidence testifies.

There isn't really much point BuildersBox saying 'Don't try this at home', because no one would be stupid enough to in the first place. Well, at least that's what the Box thought until we saw these pics.

Hammer that makes you hammered

Hammer-with-bottle-opener.jpgThere are plenty of high street stores that sell a variety of rubbish gadgets and tools, most of which you find at the bottom of your stocking at Christmas, wishing the loved one that bought it hadn't wasted their precious pounds.

But here is one gadget that might just be worth having; a hammer with a bottle opener. Superb, but not recommended for use on site.

You can buy it from Gadgetsuk.com.

How did they get built?

Crooked-house.gif
Unique Daily's gallery of weird buildings from around the world is definitely worth a quick visit if you are into wacky office designs and silly houses.

BuildersBox's favourite has to be the Polish 'Crooked House'. It takes a good few seconds to realise it is an actual building and not a photographic trick. Now building that nutty structure must have been a challenge.

Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire!

Giant-Match.gif
One of the oddities that the internet has thrown up recently has been a fascination with all things oversized. Firstly, and most famously, it was biscuits and snacks. Now, BuildersBox has discovered how to make a giant match through a posting on the 'Instructables' website. All that needs to be made now is a giant cigarette, or even better, a cigar. If you find one of those or have made it yourself, email BuildersBox and we will put it up on the site.

Timbers! Mobile phone made from wood

Wooden-mobile.gifApparently this is not a joke, and it actually does work.

Russians are not always renowned for their environmentally friendly credentials, what with them being one of the largest exporters of fossil fuel and all those Abramovich-owned industries. But this odd product defies the oil, or plastic in this case. Although if the wooden phone did become popular it might mean that quite a few trees could be felled.

BuildersBox biggest concern is about fire and water. What if it got wet, or if it caught fire? Well, that would be the end of it probably. Which really would be annoying, because the product is handmade and quite possibly pretty expensive.

The person who posted the photos seems to think that the idea will take off, and that mainstream manufacturers will start making mobiles out of wood too. What do you think?

The Gripfill Girls are back!

Gripfill-girls.jpgThe Gripfill Girls are now back due to popular demand.

Now gloriously titled the 'G-Force' girls, the company is using them to run a marketing campaign whereby you could win an on-site photoshoot with the buxom ladies. Phoar! BuildersBox doesn't think there are many of you that would turn that offer down.

The cheapest office cubicle in the world

Booth8.jpg Most offices constantly undergo radical redesigns of space every couple of years, but this example is probably the most extreme that BuildersBox has ever come across.

Top 5: builder excuses

excuse.jpg
Everyone likes to make excuses. If you are a builder, the temptation may be there more than in other industries. But what are the best, the most elaborate, or the most silly excuses that builders have ever made for poor work? Sickness, general poor health, 'it's a technical issue', the list runs on and on. Here are a few:
