    Skills competitions on the web

There are lots of young people out there that are interested in a career in construction, but who don't have access to the routes by which to make it in the industry, or don't feel they have the knowledge or experience to make a go of it. We have had lots of people emailing us about how to go forward with a career in bricklaying or other such similar skills after obtaining qualifications.

One organisation that is trying to rectify this issue is Skillbuild. Founded in 1981, it is the national competition for young people training within the construction industry.

Winning or partaking in the competition could be the vital move that will get your career moving, so it is worth checking out the website.

I've also seen that there's an event going on in Japan in November. WorldSkills used to be known as the Skills Olympics and is where, among others, there is plumbing, tiling, bricklaying and plastering competitions.
