Websites for finding and rating tradesmen

I've been told by a mate that he gets about half of his business from being listed in one of those website directories of tradesmen. He reckons he gets about 10 calls a week from potential punters who got his number from the site.

Thing is, i can't remember the address of the site and all i can find is this one http://www.askthetrades.co.uk/ but i dont think this is the one.

Does anyone else sign-up for one of these sites - if so can you receommend a good one, i like the sound of 10 calls a week!

    Hi,

This is one I've used http://www.builderregister.com/. From my point of view it's good as it's simple and shows me all the builders in a radius of my home. You could put your details on the forum if they let you? Nothing better than word of mouth these days.

YES! that's the one - although www.buildersite.co.uk is a good one as well.

There seems to be quite a few of these sites popping up all over the place and most of them want to charge me to be part of the directory. Does anyone have some advice as to which ones are the best?

If you are looking for work from larger contractors, try this one http://www.buildingregister.com/

They have around 6,000 customers who use a special software program to find subbies. Apparently around 60% of the customers are Top 100 contractors. Might be worth a go

this one's a good take on the whole 'websites of builders' theme.

It lets you upload your details, and then potential customers type in the details of their job, and it emails it to you. If you want to take on the job, you send a quote and if they like it then they get in touch!

The lights are on but there's nobody home! I couldn't find a Laborer in London - where are the hiding!! Having said that, this site was so slow I couldn't hang around waiting for the page to come up, maybe they're getting too many visitors from the article they had in The Sunday Times back in September - which coincidentally is how I stumbled on BuildersBox from a Google search.
