A few general 'netiquette' rules on behaviour on BuildersBox forum

    BuildersBox Discussion forums

    General overview

Welcome! These forums are provided for members of the building community and those interested in building to discuss issues, provide help or advice, and to offer support for each other. As these forums grow it is important that we create a set of guidelines to ensure all members can make full use of this resource safely and fairly. The forums are set up into areas of discussion to allow visitors/members to quickly find topics of interest. Multiple topics on one subject do not benefit anyone. If you wish to make a comment on a topic, see if there is a thread already existing on that subject first.

Discussion allows all members to participate and learn from each other. Intense debate on issues is positively encouraged, however please only discuss the argument, not the person making the opposing point of view. Similarly topics that degenerate into nothing more than mud slinging will also be watched and if the participation does not return to a more civil discussion they will be locked.

The guidelines below should give some indication about general acceptable behaviour in the forum. A complete terms and conditions can be found on the main site:

Rule one - Legal responsibility for posts:

All posters are legally responsible for the accuracy of their posts. BuildersBox does not accept any responsibility for any adverse consequences which arise from information posted by a member which turns out to be incorrect.  If we are faced with any action against us - legal or otherwise - caused by libellous or defamatory remarks, then we will have no choice but to pass on all of the information that we have about the poster.

Rule two - complaints about a topic or post:

If you object to a post you should e-mail the forum moderator (james.evison@rbi.co.uk) rather than posting your objections on the actual thread. Any editing which results from said e-mail has to be done manually, and therefore will happen "within a reasonable timeframe”. We will endeavour to address any problems as quickly as we can, but we can’t guarantee instant results.

    Rule threemind your manners:

Things that aren’t allowed on the site:  Knowingly false and/or defamatory posts. If you know it's a lie or untrue, then don't post it.  Abusive, vulgar, hateful, threatening or harassing posts. If you disagree with someone, that's fine. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and that's what makes for good debate. But make it personal or insulting and the offending remarks will be edited out. Attacks on particular sections of society because of race or sexuality are also covered by this rule. Obscene and profane posts. What might not offend you, could offend someone else. Please don’t swear or we will edit the offending words out. Comments that are invasive of a person's privacy. Don’t post things about people on the forums which they may not want made public ie name, address, pictures. If people want to share that information it is fine, but it is their decision.

    Rule fourno adverts in posts:

This is a discussion forum not a classified advert section. Adverts in posts will be deleted. It is fine to have a relevant, personal blog/website in your signature.

Rule five - basic disciplinary procedure:

If you break the rules you'll get edited, or the whole thread will be deleted. If you persist in breaking the rules, you will be informally warned. If you still persist in breaking the rules, you will then be formally warned. If you ignore that as well, you will receive a final warning. Once a final warning has been issued, any further breach of the rules will result in your suspension from the site.  Any or all of the steps above may be "skipped" if the BuildersBox team deems an offence serious enough to do so.

Rule seven - suspensions and bans:

Suspensions - If a member is suspended, then they will be informed by e-mail (to the address you registered with). The suspension will be lifted once a written apology has been received by BuildersBox along with a written undertaking to abide by the rules.

Bans - If a member breaches the rules again once a suspension has been lifted, they will be permanently banned from posting on the site. Again, the member will be informed by e-mail which will be sent to the e-mail address you registered with. Permanent bans may only be lifted at BuildersBox's discretion, and under whatever conditions they choose to impose. There is no guarantee that they will be lifted at all.

Updates to these rules:  We will update these rules from time to time and retain the right to delete anything that is deemed unacceptable but isn’t covered by one of the other rules.
